Army & Navy Table
Army & Navy Table
The proportions of this oak folding table are very unusual. The depth is narrow and suggests that you would use it for only short time periods, as there is not enough space to leave papers or books, as you might with a desk. This might indicate that the table was to be used in the field, say either by an Army Paymaster or a Scorer at a sporting event.
To the centre of the table is a lectern which can be set to 7 angles or can be left flush to the table surface. Below it is a well which is accessed when the lectern is raised. The lectern has a wooden twist catch to lock it closed for travel. The two pairs of legs are splayed for extra stability and lock into place by bolts. For transport, a short leather strap holds the folded legs.
The brass label to the underside of the top states 'Army & Navy C.S.L, Makers London, Bombay, Calcutta' The lectern well is stamped with the registration number 495061 giving a date of 1907.
