This small circular engraving has the legend to the bottom 'Engraved by A. Easto from an original miniature'.
It is very similar to a portrait drawing of Nelson by Simon de Koster that was noted as being in the possession of Lady Nelson and it is possible that this is the engraver's source. Easto was a portrait stipple engraver and etcher after his own designs and those of his contemporaries. The size and subject matter of this portrait would make it a very commercial print in the early 19th century, with a public keen to have a memento of England's fallen hero. The period carved wooden frame is suitably ebonized. Early 19th century.
