Diorama of the Ship Winnie
Diorama of the Ship Winnie
83277
A painted wooden Diorama of the 2 masted ship Winnie.
Although the ship has the naivety of a scratch-built model, it has been well made with good attention to detail in the beads and chain etc. used. The frame has a gilt moulded slip and a composite rococo moulding.
It came from a house in North Devon and it is likely that the diorama was either made by or given to the Winnie's owner or Captain. Little is known of the Winnie other than it was likely based in North Devon.
The back board of the diorama box has some splits, where the wood has shrunk over time, as can be seen in the photos. Some of the rigging to the back of the ship has also broken. However, these aren't too detrimental. A good-looking diorama. Mid to late 19th Century.
