An iron Folding Fork with bone scales to the handle.

The fork has two tines and the neck is serpentine shaped. The handle is pistol shaped and the top third is iron with bone scales to the remainder. These are held in place by three pins set to close to the back edge to avoid the space that the neck and tines rest in whilst folded. The bone is chipped on both sides around one pin.

The fork is relatively short in length to add to its portability. Its probable that it was part of a set with a knife etc. that were housed in a case. We do not see many pieces of 18th century folding cutlery, and this is a good example. Mid to late 18th century.

Full size for use is given.
