A miniature bronze and mahogany Carronade Model on a platform.
This is very similar to one illustrated in our previous catalogue From Chair To Cannon. There are minor differences such as the length of the carriage and the angle of the tying straps etc. but the most obvious is that this example is mounted on a platform. A dome head screw is fixed through a cut out to the platform to the underside of the carriage. This cutout runs part way along the length of the platform allowing the Carronade Model to move along it as well as turn. The platform has sledge feet and a copper or bronze plate to the front.
The mahogany carriage is on bronze wheels to pull it up to the ship's gunport after firing and re-loading. The cannon has a working elevation thread to the back and a dispart sight halfway along the length of the barrel. The small size and detail of this model are appealing. Mid 19th Century.
