A leather hide 'Leg of Mutton' Gun Case by the Army & Navy CSL.
The case is made using a good quality of hide has brass fittings and a brass slide catch lock. The interior is lined in blue baize and the shorter compartment for the stock has two long leather pockets to take cleaning rods. The lid interior has a leather divider to make a separate compartment for storing accessories. This divider has belt strap that pass through the side of the lid to meet its buckle.
The case has a fishtail handles and an adjustable shoulder strap. The case has the initials W.E.W. stamped by the handle.
Its likely that this case is the design that the A&N CSL described as The 'Hurlingham'. It stand above most other Leg of Mutton Gun cases for the extra lid pocket, cleaning rod pockets and for the fact that it has a named maker and retailer. Its also a good quality gun case. Early 20th Century.
