A mahogany Naval Armchair.
Naval Armchairs are harder to find than standard Naval Chairs. The arms have a discreet push button where the arm meets the post. This releases the iron catch which joins the two parts and then allows the chair to fold flat once the caned seat has been lifted to rest against the back. The hinged side rails have tenons that fit to mortices to the back legs and the whole flat backs quickly to clear the decks.
This is a good example of an 18th century folding Naval Armchair and has a new buttoned leather cushion for comfort. Late 18th Century.
