This folding Day Bed is unusual for being made of satin birch, with the majority made of mahogany or teak. Indeed it is the only one made of this wonderful pale golden timber that we know of. The day bed has removable legs and folds to reduce its length for travel. The three sections have ratchets to adjust their settings to allow for a number of different positions. This makes for a very comfortable and versatile seat that will also go completely flat for use as a bed. Robinsons of Ilkley were the main company to produce such day beds although a number of other firms also made them. This day bed has no maker’s mark. Late 19th Century.
