A well drawn late C19th Watercolour of a Horse and Trap, monogrammed JH and dated Xmas 98 to the bottom left hand corner.
Although we do not know who the artist is, hes has monogrammed his work JH with date to the bottom left corner. He looks to have been inspired by Cecil Aldin and he was competent enough in his work to be a professional. The picture is inscribed to the rear of the frame John Algernon Jones & Groom 1898. As this is done in biro and the frame appears to be original it is possible that it was written by a member of his family at a later date. I have been able to find out very little about Algernon Jones except that it is probable that he lived at Kelvedon Hall, Kelvedon Hatch, Essex from 1891. Kelvedon Hall is a large and impressive house which would suggest that Algernon Jones was a man of some means.
Size given includes the frame.
