Tent Pole Hooks

Category: Other Travel Items

Subcategory: Miscellaneous

Made of black japanned, pressed steel, these tent pole hooks differ from the Securem type, more commonly found.

The material used and method of making indicate their probable mass production. However, they are interesting as a variant of the form. The four hooks are hinged to fold flat for packing and the collar grips the tent pole through adjusting the wing nut on the bolt. There is no maker's name although they are partially stamped 'in England'. The stamping of goods with 'Made in England' (or other country of origin) became a requirement of US Customs in 1921, although some makers are known to have used this phrase earlier. Early 20th century.
