A folding Satin Birch Steamer Chair with foot rest to extend it.
This model is often linked with the White Star Ocean Liners but in truth, it was such a good design that a number of different workshops made them. The underlying shape to the back, legs, arms and seat is an undulating curve. The back and seat each have a caned panel and the foot rest is fully caned. When the chair is folded on it's x-frame legs, the space between the front of the seat and the stretcher of the legs increases enough to fold the foot rest under the seat.
The curves of the chair add to both its comfort and looks. Early 20th Century.
