A Mahogany Towel Rail with double rails to the top.
This Towel Rail is held together by bolts at either end of the two top rails and to the bottom rail. The middle rail has a simple mortice and tenon joint and with the other rails fixed, cannot be removed. When dismantled the Towel Rail or Horse breaks down into a bundle of sticks that can be easily packed. This would have been a useful piece of furniture whilst travelling not only because clothes can be hung on it but it can also be used to dry any laundry.
Harrods advertised a similar model of Towel Rail but it is likely that a few retailers sold them. There is no maker's mark but the number 12, which is probably a model number, is stamped in 2 places. Late 19th Century.
