A large Chinese Export, brass bound camphor wood Trunk.
A vast quantity of trunks were made in the Chinese ports for Westerners travelling through. They came in a variety of sizes and you also had the option of camphor wood covered in leather. The rich smell of the wood was a good deterrent to bugs. This trunk can be considered large and it has 3 hinges to support the lid to the top and 2 folding brass stays to keep it open. A good size for the end of the bed or as a coffee table. Mid 19th Century.
