Brass Bound Campaign Box

Category: Archive

Subcategory: Boxes

A large brass bound, mahogany Campaign Box.

The box has a later, lift out tray that might be a replacement or an addition. It is fitted with a number of dividers. The box is strengthened with brass strap work to the edges and shaped corners to the top. The lock looks to be a replacement but has a key. The sides have skeletal campaign handles. The interior base is lined in a now worn red velvet. This is a good sized box, smaller than a trunk but bigger than most boxes. The construction of the top is a little unusual in that the sides are not overlapped by the top board which is the standard method. Mid 19th Century.
